Goodbye
Several people whom you don’t consider important enough may have been the ones who were truly concerned about what you are and will be.
To say goodbye, It truly agonises me.
So close for so long, we’ve been.
I still remember how we met that day.
Who knew we would part this way?
I have been the reason for sure
for how electrified you always were.
Even when I was exhausted,
for you, I always provided.
He said, “I am also uncomfortable
with your leave, yet it is inevitable.
You were excellent but not any longer.
You are too weak and I deserve better.”
“Obviously, I have known many like you.
You must imbibe the facts which are true.
Although, I will try to remember you
for sure, I will soon replace you.”
I was heart-broken. The pain
never let me speak again
except, “You and I were more than this truly;
More than just a clock and a battery.”
Let me explain
The speaker is a personified battery. She is talking to a personified clock. She loved him and speaks of how painful it was to realise that they are being separated now that she has become weak. She definitely remembers their moments and never thought of a separation in such a manner. She had sacrificed for him; she let herself grow frail to keep him lively. Unfortunately, the attitude of the clock puts her in great pain. He says that she must leave him because she was no longer useful enough for him. He confesses to her that she was merely ordinary and didn’t mean anything special to him. What broke her heart was that he was sure of how soon she would be replaced. Her last words expose her attitude to their relationship; of how she could turn it into something special for herself.
We have met so many people in our lives. Like the clock said, “It is inevitable”, circumstances might force us to carry on without them. We can still make a lovely end to the relationship. It is practically impossible to keep in touch with all the people we have ever met. However, we can make sure, the last memory that the other chooses to cherish may be rejuvenating. Relationships are strong enough to inspire the desolate to live on. We must realise its power and significance. Nobody can be replaced
